Introduction to Sewing

This class will give you an overview of supplies, available types of patterns, and fabric choices as you begin to sew. You will be provided with a printed pdf pattern that you will learn how to piece together. Then, taking the pattern and the information learned at the beginning of the class, you will begin sewing the Popover Sundress by Oliver + S. In addition to the sundress, this pattern includes a doll dress pattern.

In this class, you will learn:
1. Basic sewing terminology and supplies, as well as types of fabrics and patterns available
2. How to read a pattern
3. How to use printed pdf pattern to create your pattern pieces
4. How to cut fabric, using pattern pieces
5. How to sew, using a machine

Helpful hints when gathering your supplies:

  • Please choose a fabric that does not have to be matched {such as stripes, plaids, etc.}.
  • Wash and dry your fabric prior to class.
