French Hand Sewing by Sarah Howard Stone Volume 2

For mothers, grandmothers, favorite aunts, doll collectors - anyone engaged in the delightful task of sewing for babies - this illustrated volume will be a continuing source of inspiration and practical guidance. In it, Sarah Howard Stone shares many of the techniques and stitches from FRENCH HAND-SEWING, Volume I; in Volume II, she hopes to arouse your creative ability. Chapter by chapter, she gives you helpful hints that will enable you to design your own treasures for tomorrow. Here you'll find timeless ideas for infants' clothing and accessories. Variations on lovely christening gowns are shown. And you'll find ideas for day gowns, dresses, sacques, pillows - everything needed for a beautiful layette or for unique and memorable gifts for newborns to babies aged eighteen months. Sarah Howard Stone, author of FRENCH HAND-SEWING, has spent many years trying to revive this delicate art and, after thirty years, feels that she has succeeded. When her first child was born, it was a boy. She was delighted that she would not have to learn to sew. But three daughters later found her deep in ruffles and rosebuds, and loving every minute of it. Now she has three grandsons and a new granddaughter, whom she enjoys seeing dressed in her confectionary designs. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, she resides in her old family home. In her back yard, she and her daughter Melissa have a modest shop, The Other Place, where you can find the most delicate laces, fabrics, and trims imaginable. Sarah Howard Stone continues to share her knowledge generously with others by teaching classes and seminars throughout the nation. She also designs patterns and kits for all ages, so clearly explained that even a novice will find them easy to follow.
